Associate Professor Daryl Cheng is a consultant paediatrician and clinical informatician at The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne (RCH), consultant paediatrician at Monash Children’s Hospital and Head of Paediatrics, Cabrini Health. He has additional clinical research and educational posts as Honorary Principal Fellow at the Department of Paediatrics, University of Melbourne and Clinical Research Fellow, Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI).
He is engaged in systems thinking, innovation and design work through appointments at the RCH as a digital health consultant in the Melbourne Children’s Campus Centre for Health Analytics and RCH Digital Innovation (Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Teams. His public health interest has previously spanned roles with Surveillance of Adverse Events Following Vaccination in the Community (SAEFVIC), Victoria’s vaccine safety surveillance system and the Melbourne Vaccine Education Centre (MVEC).
A/Prof Cheng’s research and scholarly contributions
A/Prof Cheng has specific interests in acute care / high dependency inpatient paediatrics and travel & immunisation medicine. He is a co-founder of Family & Immunisation Travel Specialists (FITS) Clinic, and consults privately at Cabrini Health.
He is also a founder of Unyoked Health, a unique health initiative comprising a boutique health clinic, health consultancy as well as innovation lab. Through this venture, he is a leading part of initiatives such as The Well Nest and Bubbles & Briefcases.
A graduate of Monash University, his interests led him to pursue further training in public health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His paediatric training was completed in Melbourne, Australia and paediatric clinical fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children (Sickkids) in Toronto, Canada.
Outside of clinical medicine, A/Prof Cheng holds various committee and council roles at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP), Australian Institute of Digital Health (AIDH) and is a non-executive board director of Adventist Healthcare Limited (AHCL) and Tweddle Child and Family Health Service. He is a Fellow of the RACP and AIDH, an associate fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). He is also a Certified Health Informatician Australasia (CHIA).
Daryl enjoys travel, photography and is an active member and founder of various community and non-profit enterprise ventures. He enjoys bow ties.
